Overview

A tango.info user name is bound by some restrictions.

Character restrictions

Only letters of the Latin alphabet are allowed.

Length restrictions

Currently all usernames must be exactly 8 characters long.

Reasoning:

  • users that sign up later shall not have the disadvantage of longer names, vs users that sign up early and get shorter.
  • presenting all usernames in a list gives a more harmonious picture if they are of equal length

Word restrictions

It should not:

  • contain any of the words: tango, milonga, event, festival
  • be a word (esp. not in English or Spanish)
  • be a name of
    • a geographic entity, e.g. a city "mannheim".
    • a person
      • common first name, e.g. "benjamin"
      • common last name, e.g. "pfeiffer"
      • name of person in tango history, e.g. Pugliese, Francini, Castillo
